Enlisted Training

BASIC TRAINING

Picture Basic Combat Training (BCT) in the New Mexico Army National Guard as your ultimate, action-packed introduction to military life. Over the course of 10 weeks, you’ll transition from civilian to soldier in a hands-on, challenging environment. You’ll push your limits with intense physical training, learn to handle weapons with precision, and take part in field exercises that put your tactical skills to the test. But it’s more than just physical training – you’ll embrace Army values and traditions, gaining a sense of purpose as part of something bigger than yourself.

ADVANCED INDIVIDUAL TRAINING

Advanced Individual Training (AIT) with the New Mexico Army National Guard is where your journey into a specialization begins after completing Basic Combat Training (BCT). This phase focuses on mastering the skills and knowledge specific to your chosen Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). Whether you’ve selected a role in engineering, communications, medical services, or another of the many opportunities in the Guard, AIT provides the in-depth training you need to excel. The duration of AIT varies based on the complexity of your MOS, ranging from a few weeks to several months.

During AIT, the training becomes highly hands-on and tailored to your role. For example, medics will dive into advanced first aid, medical terminology, and the operation of medical equipment. Those pursuing logistics will gain expertise in supply chain management, inventory systems, and distribution processes. You'll train under seasoned professionals who provide not just technical skills, but also practical insights drawn from their real-world experience.

AIT doesn’t just prepare you for success in the New Mexico Army National Guard – it also equips you with valuable skills that can open doors to civilian career opportunities. This phase sets the stage for both your military service and your future beyond the uniform.
